Following repeated requests made by the Old Boys of De La Salle College Malta, it was decided at the begining of the Scholastic Year 1965, that the time had come for the formation of the Old Lasallians Association (OLA). The greater number of requests made came from past students of the College, who in 1951 had resolved to donate their first weekly salary towards the erection of a Monument in the honour of St John Baptist De La Salle in the event of their being successful at the Dockyard Entrance Examination. Their aim was meaningful. They wanted to make sure of the launching of the Association which would eventually face the first challenge - the arrangements for the erection of the Monument. On the 7th of November 1965, an organising Committee was set up to start the ball rolling. Soon after, the first AGM was held, followed by the first Committee Meeting held on the 23rd January 1966. There is a tendency to believe that it has been all rosy since then, but there were times when, were it not for the continual financial and moral help coming from the Brothers (with special mention to the encouragement given by Bro. Edward and Bro. James) and the Committee members themselves throughout all these years, the Association would have found it impossible to function any longer. Despite the difficulties encountered during its existence, we are now proud to have contributed, in a modest way perhaps, to maintain the good reputation of the College, the students and the Old Lasallians. Standing majestically on the College grounds is a monument to Saint John Baptist De La Salle gratefully erected by the Old Lasallians. It is a symbol of ties that bind us all together - Brothers and Old Boys - in a spirit of generosity and understanding. It reminds us of the unstinted efforts of our teachers, who unselfishly gave all their care and attention to the formation of our character when we were at the College. For this, we feel indebted. It is fitting therefore, with the launching of our website, to renew our promises to safeguard the reputation of the college, to extend our help whenever needed and to further enhance the dialogue which exists between the Association and the College. There is no reason why we should not look ahead with optimism.
